The New Teacher Induction program provides a two-year, individualized, job-embedded program for all teachers new to California schools. As mandated by the state, all new teachers, or teachers newly credentialed in California, must participate in an induction program approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing within their first year of teaching. The purpose of the New Teacher Induction program is to provide a system for self-analysis and growth as they study their craft. This is accomplished through a mentoring relationship, designed to engage new teachers in the art of teaching and reflective practice. Another primary purpose of the induction program is to retain promising teachers.
Our program provides the following services for new teacher candidates and mentors:
- Research-based Mentor Professional Development to support new teachers
- 40 hours of focused conversation support with a qualified mentor
- Collaboration with administration focused on teacher, site, and district goals
- Professional learning centered on building mentor capacity and engaging teachers in classroom-based inquiry connected to the CSTP
- Professional learning days designed to deepen professional practice
- Consultation for teachers, mentors, and district coordinators on a variety of topics important to teaching practice
- Clear credential processing upon completion of the induction program
- Clear credential processing for single and multiple subjects, special education levels 1 & 2
- Experienced facilitators with recent classroom experience
- An Early Completion Option for experienced and exceptional candidates
